The Lifting Gear UK Group was founded in November 2007 and was the brainchild of Operations Director, Chris Turner. Chris’ 35 year lifting career began with Ainscough Crane Hire where he gained valuable experience from driving cranes up to 1000 tonne capacity to machinery installation and relocation. Becoming one of the first UK recognised ‘Appointed Person’ specialising in heavy & complicated lift planning.

Chris recognised a gap in the market for a quality lifting equipment supplier that not only offered the usual lifting equipment services (hire, sales, repair, inspection) but also specialised in crane and heavy equipment, offering a complete lifting service from planning to execution.

The Lifting Gear UK Group is unique. Our Lifting Projects division offers contract lifting, skilled labour, auditing and consultation, specialising in complex lifting solutions. We can plan and execute the whole lifting service and if there isn’t the equipment to accomplish your lift we’ll design and fabricate it in our ‘Steelwise’ division.

The company has grown year on year; we can now service the whole of the UK from a strong 11 branch network. We also have a training division that offers familiarisation and safe use training for all of our lifting products, and in 2017 we acquired the assets and trading name of Teesside-based lifting specialists Shaw Lifting.

We like a challenge and have the expertise to provide creative, professional solutions that will deliver your load safely and with a minimum of fuss.

We are also adaptable. Sometimes well-laid plans have to be altered once a project is underway. The secret to this is preparation plus flexible but safe thinking.

As well as providing you with the right kit and equipment, we also have a fully skilled workforce including Lift Supervisors, Slingers, Banksmen and Riggers.

Our in-house design and fabrication service. If we can’t supply the lifting equipment you require, we will make it ourselves. Steelwise allows the Lifting Gear UK Group to offer you a truly bespoke service.

We offer a wide range of familiarisation and safe use courses for all of our lifting products. Our main training centre is located near Hinkley Point in Bridgwater, however we are able to deliver at, or near to any of our Lifting Gear UK centres. Bespoke training courses can be tailored to meet your needs, and delivered at your premises if required.
